What Zoom Whitening Can Do For You
Zoom Whitening at Haddonfield Dental
Zoom is an In-Office Tooth Whitening process widely used throughout the country and around the world to lighten discolored teeth/ Tooth discoloration may result from drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine; or from smoking. The aging process also can stain and darken your teeth.
The Zoom in-office tooth whitening procedure uses the Zoom Advanced Power Chair-side Lamp to activate the prescription strength whitening gel. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin to bleach the stained substances, leaving the structure of the tooth unchanged.
Zoom At Haddonfield Dental
At Haddonfield Dental the Zoom Procedure takes 1.5 hours. We first determine if you are a candidate for Zoom!
• You need to have a professional cleaning within 6 months
• You must have healthy gums
• There are certain medications that are contraindicated
• You must not be pregnant or breast feeding
• Due to the Length of the procedure and time it requires – YOU MUST GIVE 2 FULL BUSINESS DAYS CANCELLATION
• One to Three applications of the gel will be applied for 15 to 20 minutes
• At the time of your appointment you may opt to have sensitivity trays or take home whitening trays made for an additional $50
We will conduct a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to ensure proper health, as well as talk with you about your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if you will benefit from whitening.
Depending on the condition of your teeth and your goals for changing the look of your smile, tooth whitening may not be your best option.
During your consultation and evaluation, we also will note existing dental work, such as crowns and veneers, which will not respond to conventional whitening agents.
The Zoom In-Office Whitening Procedure
The procedure begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving the teeth exposed. The dentist then applies the Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which works together with the Zoom light to penetrate the teeth and break up the stains and discoloration.
The gel remains in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated. During this time, you can relax, watch TV or listen to music.
The gel is applied for one to three 15-minute sessions of light activation. Individuals with a strong gag reflex or anxiety may have difficulty undergoing the entire procedure. Many times all of the staining is removed in one application while others require three.
Zoom Whitening Aftercare: Maintaining Whitening Effects
For an additional fee ($50) you may opt for Zoom home-use touch-up kit that includes custom-fitted whitening trays. Follow your dentist's instructions for when and how to use this touch-up kit.
To help maintain the whitening effects of your Zoom teeth whitening treatment, you should avoid certain foods and beverages, or consume them in moderation to avoid staining your teeth. This includes tea, coffee, red wine, cola, etc.
Additionally, tobacco products will stain teeth, even after whitening treatments. Maintain an appropriate oral hygiene (brushing and flossing) regimen to prevent stains from reforming, and see your dentist and hygienist regularly for scheduled teeth cleanings.
Zoom Whitening Considerations
Zoom may cause extreme sensitivity during treatment. Before you Zoom! We recommend that you use Sensodyne for a week. The Zoom light produces minimal heat, which is usually the source of discomfort. Rarely, minor tingling is experienced immediately after the procedure, but always dissipates.
As with other tooth whitening products, Zoom whitening is not recommended for children under 13 years of age, or for pregnant or lactating women. Also, it is important to remember that whitening treatment may not be as effective for some people as it is for others. Only your dentist can determine if Zoom teeth whitening is right for you after performing a thorough oral examination that includes a shade assessment.
Zoom Teeth Whitening Cost and Treatment Time
The average cost of Zoom teeth whitening treatment is $850Most cosmetic dentistry treatments are not covered by dental insurance. Zoom whitening costs are therefore unaffected by most insurance plans.
Sports Dentistry - Dentistry for the Athlete
Whether you’re a professional athlete, a student athlete, or you just like to play for fun and health, it is important to protect your teeth. Dental injuries caused by sports can lead to tooth loss, permanent discoloration or chronic pain and even future TMJ problems. It is important to protect your teeth with a custom athletic mouthguard.
At Haddonfield Dental Dr. Joseph Reed of Cherry Hill and Haddonfield NJ is skilled in making custom athletic mouthguards. He is skilled and educated in caring for dental trauma and sports injuries of the teeth and mouth. Dr. Reed can help to treat and prevent athletic injuries to the teeth and mouth.
Properly fitted mouthguards are essential in preventing injuries. The boiled mouthguards that are sold in stores do not help to protect the teeth the same way a custom mouth guard can help. Custom mouth guards can help to prevent concussions by helping to absorb force upon impact and by properly setting the jaw and providing additional head and neck stabilization. Whether it is for a sports emergency or for a custom fitted mouthguard, call Dr .Joseph Reed and his team at Haddonfield Dental today!
